Hammer Projection
Hammer–Aitoff
Ernst Hammer's 1892 modification of the Aitoff projection. The elliptical boundary looks like Mollweide, but Hammer achieves equal area by compressing the horizontal scale and expanding the vertical. Used for star charts, global distribution maps, and anywhere Mollweide's shape distortion is too severe.
