Winkel Tripel Projection

National Geographic Standard

National Geographic's choice since 1998. Oswald Winkel designed it in 1921 by averaging the Aitoff projection with the equirectangular. 'Tripel' means triple — it minimises three distortions simultaneously: area, direction, and distance. The gold standard for general-purpose world maps.
